01 / Overview
Escalation is the plan for a missed first route
An escalation policy is useful when the first person or channel is not enough. It gives the response process an explicit fallback instead of leaving the next action to improvisation.
MonoDuty separates this capability from basic scheduling: all plans include on-call scheduling, while the published Pro and Business plans add escalation policies. That makes the plan boundary visible before rollout.
02 / Operating value
Use escalation to remove response ambiguity
A good policy is short enough to understand and complete enough to cover the incidents that matter.
Protect the first route from being a single point of failure
Define what your team should do when the initially responsible person does not take ownership.
Keep responsibility aligned with the schedule
Build the fallback around on-call scheduling, which is included in both Pro and Business.
Pair fallback with appropriate channels
Both eligible tiers list email, push, SMS, voice, Slack, Discord, and Microsoft Teams.
03 / Workflow
Build escalation from policy, not from panic
Write the response rule first, then reflect that rule in the product configuration.
- 01
Name the initial owner
Anchor incident responsibility in the on-call schedule.
- 02
Define the fallback condition
Document when the incident should move beyond the initial route and who becomes responsible next.
- 03
Test the full chain
Use a safe test incident to verify that schedule, policy, and delivery channels match the intended operating rule.
04 / Plans
Choose between two escalation-ready tiers
Pro and Business both include escalation policies; scale and surrounding features differentiate them.

Business
$19 per user/month with unlimited users and incidents, plus 90-day retention.

Both tiers include email, push, SMS, voice, Slack, Discord, and Microsoft Teams.
